HydroGeoSphere workshop with Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources

Aquanty hosted a HydroGeoSphere (HGS) workshop in partnership with the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) was held from June 27th to July 3rd in Daejeon, Korea. The workshop (organized and delivered by Aquanty senior scientist Dr. Hyoun-Tae Hwang) had about 40 attendees from universities and institutes in Korea.

The workshop had two main programs: a two-day short course for beginners; and a three-day advanced workshop for graduate students and researchers.

The short course covered the development of integrated hydrologic models using HGS. The attendees learned how to apply HGS to their own research or industrial projects through a combination of presentations and hand-on practices. The advanced workshop provided details of an integrated surface-subsurface model of the Geum River Basin (GRB) based on a research paper entitled “Estimating Anthropogenic Effects on a Highly-Controlled Basin with an Integrated Surface-Subsurface Model” and its supply data (Hwang et al., 2021). The participants learned how to generate high-quality meshes, to build an integrated surface-subsurface model, and to operate HGS-PEST program for the model calibrations.

Aquanty would like to thank all the attendees and especially Drs. Eunhee Lee, Dongkyu Park, and Hyeonju Lee, who helped for making this event a big success during the COVID-19 pandemic.
