NEW version of HGS (October 2022 - Revision 2457)

The HydroGeoSphere Revision 2457 (October 2022) is now available for download.

This month we have introduced an huge list of new commands, six in total (possibly a new record?):

  • ‘soil water balance custom depth’ computes the volume of water stored in the subsurface, from the top of the model to a set of user specified depths.

    • We’ve also updated the existing command ‘soil water balance’ to more accurately calculate water volumes when layer elevations do not lie exactly 0.1m and 1.0m below ground surface.

  • ‘read overland zones from file’ and ‘read et zones from file’ that read element-zone number pairs from an ASCII file

  • ‘create segment set from chosen segments’ that creates a segment set from currently chosen segments

  • ‘fluid mass balance for olf areas for chosen faces’ and ‘fluid mass balance for olf areas for chosen faces by layer’ which are very similar to other commands described in Section Polygon Tracking of the HGS reference manual. Al existing commands (and the new commands) allow for overlapping polygon regions and polygons consisting of multiple parts that contain holes

We’ve also resolved all user reported bugs, and made several general improvements. The model mesh summary now includes 3D mesh volume, void volume, top surface area, and projected top surface area. We’ve also made a huge improvement to error reporting, as Fortran iostat values will now be written to the error message (making troubleshooting much easier!).

And perhaps most importantly, we’ve made some general improvements to the types of polygon shapefiles that are now supported by HydroGeoSphere. We now support complex polygon shapefiles consisting of multiple polygons that may (or may not) contain holes. Stay tuned for more improvements to shapefile support in the coming months!

As always, we are committed to the continued improvement to the user experience. Do you have suggestions for new commands or improvements to the user experience? Send your ideas to support@aquanty.com!

The latest installers are available on the HGS download page and a full list of changes/updates can be found in the release notes.
