NEW version of HGS PREMIUM August 2025 (REVISION 2861)

The HydroGeoSphere Revision 2861 (August 2025) software update is now available for download.

This month’s update focuses on improving storage term calculations for channel flow, refining restart file handling, boosting runtime performance for zone mapping, and expanding available output options for post-processing and visualization. Together, these updates improve model accuracy, streamline large simulation workflows, and make it easier to analyze results in HydroGeoSphere (HGS).

Added new binary output files:

  • prefixo.elem_water_vol_pm.XXXX – reports elemental water volume in the porous medium domain.

  • prefixo.elem_water_vol_olf.XXXX – reports elemental water volume in the surface domain. These files can be visualized directly with hgs2vtu to support better water storage analysis.

Refactored restart file handling
The restart write off command has been updated so that restart files are only written upon successful completion of a simulation. This reduces unnecessary file creation and saves disk space.

Improved runtime performance for zone mapping
The map zone numbers from regional model by volume command has been optimized to run faster when mapping zones from large regional models.

hgs2vtu enhancements

  • The prefixo.newton_info.dat file is now converted to NetCDF format (prefixo.newton_info.nc) for improved compatibility and handling.

  • Fixed a bug that caused incorrect model prefixes to be parsed from certain output filenames.

Fix for storage term computation in 1D channels
Resolved a bug in how the change in storage term is calculated for 1D channels when the channel type is trapezoid, circle, or general. This ensures more accurate flow simulations for models using these channel geometries.

You can find details about these new features in the HydroGeoSphere Reference Manual. And as always, we are committed to the continued improvement to the user experience. Do you have suggestions for new commands or improvements to the user experience? Send your ideas to support@aquanty.com!

The latest installers are available on the HGS download page and a full list of changes/updates can be found in the release notes.
