The HydroGeoSphere September 2026 release is now available for download.
This month’s update focuses on improving zone handling and raster-based model setup, while introducing new tools for Newton convergence control and mesh rotation. Together, these updates improve runtime performance and provide greater control when configuring model zones, solver convergence, and mesh orientation in HydroGeoSphere (HGS).
New Newton convergence command
New command newton dual convergence criteria requires both the absolute and residual convergence criteria to be satisfied before the Newton iteration is declared converged.
This provides additional control over Newton solver convergence criteria.
New mesh rotation commands
New command rotate mesh z rotates mesh coordinates around a vertical line passing through a user-specified point (x0, y0) by a specified angle.
New command rotate mesh z about centroid rotates mesh coordinates around a vertical line passing through the mesh centroid (xc, yc) by a specified angle.
These commands provide new options for adjusting mesh orientation directly within the HGS model setup workflow.
Improved zone number handling
Refactored the new zone command so that it now respects user-specified zone numbers.
Previously, HGS could relabel user-specified zone numbers based on the order in which they were defined to create contiguous zone numbers beginning at 1. This update ensures that the zone numbers defined by the user are preserved.
Improved raster command performance
Improved the performance of several raster-based commands:
read zones from raster, dominant class
map zones from raster, dominant class
elevation from raster cv mean
These improvements help streamline model setup when working with raster datasets, particularly for larger or more complex models.
Documentation updates
The HydroGeoSphere Reference Manual (hydrosphere_ref.pdf) has been updated to include these new features and enhancements.
You can find details about these new features in the HydroGeoSphere Reference Manual. And as always, we are committed to the continued improvement of the user experience. Do you have suggestions for new commands or improvements to the user experience? Send your ideas to support@aquanty.com
